Another Woodstock Update

Posted by Kritter Girl on May 29, 2008

Hi Everyone, Woodstock here.

Woodstock_withCast

First off I would like to thank everyone who sent me all the get well wishes. I need all the help I can get.

Just thought I would give you an update on my latest Vet appointment this week. Sad to say after three weeks in my new splint there hasn’t been any improvement. I have been x-rayed now 4 times over the past 10 weeks, in a cast and a splint. Now I have a new different kind of splint on my leg they say should stay on for 4-6 weeks this time. My OLD bones just aren’t mending like they should. At this time to do orthopedic surgery is questionable. They say they would have to remove the old plate and put in all new hardware as they call it. That might not work either because it has been 10 weeks since I broke my leg. This would also cost my Mom and Dad tons of money over what it did 8 years ago, with no guarantee that it would fix my leg.

I remember when I broke my leg last time, I was laid up for 11 weeks. So my Mom got to thinking because, of my age I just need more time. So this new splint will be one my leg for 6 weeks. Hopefully this extra time will give my OLD bones time to mend. If that doesn’t work it looks like they will amputate my leg at the elbow where it is broken or the entire legs that will be up to my Vet. I may be almost 9 and but I’m in good health otherwise.

I’m getting plenty of rest and don’t even get to go out with my bigger brothers and sisters I’m taking all my extra vitamins, calcium and even those funny sprout things my Mom puts in my food. Oh, she tells me they are alfalfa sprout which are suppose to be good to help mend bones. What do I know, I’m just a dog! But I eat them anyway, cuz she tells me they are good for me. So I guess at this point it is once again just a wait and see thing.

Thanks for thinking of me – Woodstock

    Hi kiddo
Sorry the vet appointment didn’t go better. But, maybe your Mom is right about giving you more time. Hopefully this will work.
Your Mom is taking good care of you with all the extra nutrional things she is doing for you. You are lucky she knows a lot about these things. And, I am sure she is watching your calorie intake so you keep that gorgeous figure.
I know it is difficult not to be able to go out and play. You are such a social little gal and love to be in the action. Just be patient.
Tell your Mom to let my Mom know when you can have visitors. I really, really want to come see you. I know you get excited when company comes so I promise I will be on my best behavior.
    Lots of love,
    Chico

    Hi, Woodstock,

So sorry to hear you are not healing well. Hopefully, things will improve soon. Keep doing what mom says. It sometimes is not fun getting older. We send our good wishes.

  3. Chico,
You need to check with your mom as far as her work schedule goes so we can get together, I would like that, even though I am not allow to run around to much at least we could visit if nothing else. It has been hard on me not being allowed to go out with my bigger brothers and sisters to be the “activity director” as my dad calls me. I stand off to the side and bark my directions to them; I really like to tell the big dogs what to do when they are outside playing. So just tell your Mom to talk to mine so we can get together.
    Love,
    Woodstock

  4. Sandy, Dundee, Rufus and Cocoa,

Thanks for the well wishes. I am doing everything Mom tells me but, I am getting bored just being in my “house”, kennel. It’s not fun being by myself all the time, but I guess I have no choice. Hopefully I will be better soon so you can come over so we can play.
    Love,
    Woodstock
